Welcome to the local page for the Cowal and Bute Argyll Voluntary Action.  We will be updating this site regularly with information on community and voluntary organisation support and advice, funding information in local area, volunteer opportunities and anything else that we think may be of interest.

Timebank drop-in – last Friday every month

All are invited on the last Friday of each month (11-1) to the AVA office in Dunoon – find out about Timebanking and volunteering – make exchanges with other Timebank members, have a good cup of tea, home made cake and a blether! We hope to see you! This month we meet on Friday, and there is a chance to find out what help is around locally for those bleaker winter months – Samaritans, Crossroads for Carers, Guided Self Help and Counselling and Support for Recovery.

Come along too to find out about our new Counterweight project starting in January – new year, new healthy you!

Volunteering opportunities are always available – come in and find something just right for you!

Timebank volunteers are needed to work within the office and help with the running of the Timebank – office, admin and telephone skills would all be useful, but full training will be given.

Timebanking and sharing resources

Visit Cowal are encouraging us all to use the automated What’s On page on the visitcowal website. This new presentation format allows any event organiser more options in how they can list and present their event. There is a new What’s On submission form so it is now quick and easy to post your event on the visitcowal website. Complete the easy to follow instructions and submit. They are looking for as wide a range of events to be included on this page as possible. This will help us in the voluntary sector to know what is happening, where we can help each other, or promote our own events.

If you are involved with anything that is open to visitors then make sure you include it in the Events page. Be sure to tell others about this new form too – the more people that use this the stronger Cowal will be.

Argyll Voluntary Action are building the resource directory – resources available for sharing, using our Timebank network – help us to help you by letting us know what you have available for others to borrow, by calling 700100 or emailing michaela@argyllvoluntaryaction.org.uk

Third Sector Forum

Please remember that all groups/organisations are welcome to come along and join in.  Please let us know if you would like to go ion the mailing list for dates and agendas, or if there is anything you would like on the agenda also. Contact us on 01369 700100 or email alistair@argyllvoluntaryaction.org.uk .

Training Courses Available with AVA

Argyll Voluntary Action offer many training courses, including…

Time management - This training will give participants an opportunity to step back from their work situation, to review and analyse how they use time and how they can improve areas of weakness. Participants will do this by keeping a log diary for one day, reviewing their use of time, reflecting on their work habits and starting to plan to improve their use of time.

Motivating and retaining volunteers This 4 hour course teaches participants what motivates/de-motivates people in paid and unpaid work, how to recognise volunteers and why volunteers leave. Other topics covered include identifying signs/causes of de-motivation, various ways of dealing with de-motivation and how to deal with dissatisfaction.

If you would like more information on any of these courses, to book a place or simply to discuss what else Argyll Voluntary Action can offer please contact us on 01369-700100 or email us on michaela@argyllvoluntaryaction.org.uk

Are you a member of our timebank?

We would like to meet up with you again, see what matches we can make for you, and make sure you are as involved as you would like to be! Please give us a call to make an appointment on 01369-700100. Come in and meet up with the team! Come in and see us at our Edward Street Office!
